Renting vs Buying: a Great Way to Save Money and Have Fun
They say that you can’t buy happiness - but is it possible to rent it? In this article, John Hinkle explains the game renting business. Modelled after the very successful online-movie renting business pioneered by Netflix, it’s hard to beat the convenience of having games arrive at your doorstep when you want them, and how often you want them. Is renting better than buying? A typical game has a very definitive - and sometimes short-lived - “play time,” or the amount of time that it takes to play through the game from beginning to end. Sometimes this can be as long as 40 hours; sometimes it can be as short as 6 hours. However, once played, it usually just ends up collecting dust on a shelf, until obsolences finally claims it and it ends up in a garage sale or the trash bin.
