Death Knight – The first hero class

The class of Death Knights is the latest available class in WoW. The new class became available when the World of Warcraft Expansion ‘Wrath of the Lich King’ was released. Blizzard called the Death Knight a Hero class because of several reasons. It must be said however, that the Death Knight class is not stronger than other classes.

They do have a new attack system because their attacks and spells are based on Runic Power. They have two runes with a cooldown at their disposal for any attack and spell. The DK has three different types of runes: two Frost, Blood, and Unholy. Same goes for the talent trees a DK has – Frost, Blood and Unholy.

A Death Knight wears plate armor, deals melee damage and has several spells that can be cast from distance as well.  The Death Knight class can play both a tank and a good melee dps role in any dungeon group and raid. He can’t wear shields but he can use a one handed weapon or use two two-handed weapons.

To be able to create a DK you will need to have a level 70 char. A good thing about this is that you can start leveling your DK from level 55. Besides that, you will also receive a set of green gear, 5 bags and 30 Silver.

Your DK char will start in the Eastern Plaguelands area - The Ebon Hold. When you start you will be on the side of the Lich King. He will command you where to go and which quests to do. Upon competitions of these quests you will receive the talent points you have missed and a bit better gear. Because you start at level 55 you have missed out on some talent points but you can earn these back through questing.

You will level up till about level 58 once the quest chain you are working on changes drastically. Your char will manage to escape and he/she will join the enemies of the Lich King. After this scenario you can go anywhere you please and it is advised that you continue your adventure in the Outlands where you can continue leveling. Your char will leave The Ebon Hold completely prepared when it comes to gear and talent points.

As for professions you have several options as a Death Knight. You can choose any professions you feel are suitable for your char but keep in mind that some professions are better than other depending on the class you play. When it comes to most of the characters, Enchanting is a nice and useful profession to have because you will be able to enchant your rings. These enchants are available only to the enchanter himself and they are considered to be a good upgrade for any char. Jewelcrafting, which is best combined with Mining for cheap leveling purposes, is nice because a Jewelcrafter can make better gems for own use. As you continue to progress in the game you will get better gear and you will be able to socket it more which is very nice since Jewelcrafters can make unique gems for themselves which have better stats. You can also make different kinds of Jewelry with it like necklaces, rings and trinkets. Blacksmithing is also a good option because you will be able to make plate gear. Best accompanied by the Mining profession, you can also use Blacksmithing to make sockets in your gloves and wrists.

Playing a Death Knight will definitely bring you loads of fun. The only down point is that there are so many of them. The only thing that might bother you is that almost everyone has made a DK simply because you start at level 55 and it is fairly easy to level a char from there on.
