WoW Herbalism Guide

As a gathering profession Herbalism will give you a great chance to make lots of gold. Herbalism is a primary profession and complements Alchemy and Inscription very well. This WoW Herbalism Guide will help get you started with Herbalism.

First things first, find a trainer who usually can be found in large cities. If you do need some help locating one just ask a guard. You may want to consider training for Alchemy along with Herbalism since they compliment each other and their trainers are often found near each other.

To become a Master you’ll need a trainer from Hellfire Peninsula. I won’t get into Grand Master level in this WoW Herbalism guide, but they involve the upper levels of 375-450. However, Alliance characters need to go to either Valgarde in Howling Fjord or Valiance Keep in the Borean Tundra for training. Horde characters can find a trainer in Vengeance Landing also in Howling Fjord.

The great thing is that once you’ve gotten training you won’t need anything else, other than a bag with lots of space to carry things you gather. Have a tailor make you a special bag with slots especially made for carrying herbs. Keep your eyes open because herbs and plants can be found just about anywhere including under water. Any unused herbs can be sold in the Auction House. With “Find Herb” activated, the yellow dots on your map will indicate those plants that can be gathered.

In order to pick an herb just walk up to it until the action cursor activates. If you can’t gather an herb or plant it probably means that you haven’t gotten the required skill level yet. Higher zones will have plants that require higher herbalism levels to pick. Other than being able to find herbs anywhere you can get them by completing instances, killing monsters and even treasure chests.

Herbs with certain color codes will affect you skill level in different way which I’ll describe now. Hovering the mouse over a herb will indicate its color code, check the list below for their meaning.

  • Red- You don’t have the needed skill level to pick it yet.
  • Orange- These will probably help your skill level.
  • Yellw- These only have a moderate chance to help you, but you should still pick them.
  • Green- Low chance for any benefit to you skill level.
  • Gray- No chance what so ever of giving you more skill.

I won’t talk in this WoW Herbalism guide about leveling up to 450 but one thing I’ll mention is “Lifeblood”, which will allow healing by getting nutrients and energy for your surroundings.
