WIll Full Game Downloads Come To Xbox 360?

During an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Peter Molyneux, creater of Fable, hinted that Xbox 360 owners could soon be seeing full game downloads onto your Xbox.

During the interview, he said “I think it would be a great thing for this studio to work on. I can’t say anything else of it – I would be killed to death”.

At the moment, you can download some games from Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, however, the games that are available are limited to older and games that takes less space.

Although some people may think that this idea is brilliant, the reality will being them out of the clouds.
At the moment, if you were able to download a full game onto your hard drive, it would drain around 6GB of space and take a long tiresome wait time to download.

Even though these problems could be worked around, considering the Elite Xbox has a 120GB hard drive, there are still problems that would need to be considered.

Firstly, the second hand market would go down, as there would be no second hand games, the prices would not go down.
Also, because the games would drain around 6GB of space, many people would go out and buy the 120GB hard drive which costs a pricey £100, and will still only store around 20 games.
This will all lead to people deleting their games, they won’t want to hand over the cash for a new hard drive just for a new game, and because of that, many people will become more choosy about which games they buy as they might have to delete another one and they won’t be able to take the new one back.

Plus, this idea would not work for the arcade systems; it would require all current owners of the console to buy a hard drive and also Microsoft to start supplying hard drives with them, which would drive up the prices.

Even though there are many downsides to full game downloads, there is one upside to the idea. As the games would be online for download, the price may be dropped slightly because there would be no need for any packaging costs.

Overall, I find the whole idea of it stupid. The only advantage I can see is that you don’t have to leave your house, but if your order online, you don’t do that anyway, plus the post would probably be faster than download.

Caribbean Holidays and All Inclusive Holidays are perfect for this Winter.
